How it all began..........

Well..here I am..... a qualified Celebrant. Its funny how things turn out..I never thought I would be starting a new business...training for a new career path...giving up many years working in a high school and all because of a trip to Sydney and a cup of coffee with a friend in Rivington....

It all started with a trip to Sydney to see our son..I knew the trip would be fun and exciting...but life changing ? No..that never came into my radar. The weather was glorious, the beaches stunning, the food fabulous and the company....well..of course that was amazing but it was a chance meeting with a friend of our host that really started to alter the course of my stars (I dont believe in all that "its in the stars" but every so ofter my points of view are somewhat challenged!!!)

Chris is a celebrant in Sydney. She exudes passion for her job and after I had politely enquired what she actually did..I was hooked ! I needed to know more. She took me to gorgeous out of the way beaches and hidden coves and explained how she has conducted weddings in these magical settings. Now..I know that Rivington and its surrounding area are areas of outstanding beauty but I am down to earth enough to accept that a wedding on the banks of the reservoir is never going to have the same photographic potential as a hidden beach in Sydney !!!!

Then there is the weather. Chris explained that almost every wedding she oficiated was bathed in sunlight and I am sure that this was the image I had in my mind when I decided there and then....this is the job for me.......conveniently forgetting that it rains for most of the summer in the UK....

The seed was firmly planted but it took 5 months before it started to sprout.....

A chance cup of coffee with a friend in a beautiful 'hidden' tea room in

Rivington on a Wednesday afternoon led to the both of us making life changing decisions....I still think there is something in the coffee at the cafe and its stunning surroundings that have some sort of magical powers...( here again its that "its in the stars" stuff !!!)

By 4pm I had decided to give up a well paid (not) steady (boring) good pension (if they dont go bust) interesting (depends on your viewpoint) job in education and become The Rivington Celebrant. This title was easy to come by as its where we live and its a nod to the tearoom where this grand plan was first hatched....

So...thats why I now am the proud owner of this blog....an office (in a cupboard )..a briefcase...(red and shiny) .....a website name (www.therivingtoncelebrant.co.uk) new pens (trendy ones) and currently looking for a laptop upon which to regail you with hilarious tales and excrutiating moments of embarassment along the path of a Celebrant.....so stay with me for the journey....it may make you laugh..cry...howl and cringe but...we will be doing it together..so until next time..I will tell you about my meeting with the small business advisor (god help him)...thanks for reading...and a bit of well thought out advice ....I would recommend sitting down with a glass of something cold (or tea for those rare breed non imbibers) and get comfortable...I am waffling now so speak soon.....
