Are Traditions going out of fashion?

Over the last few decades, wedding trends and traditions have changed dramatically. Going back a generation, getting hitched in the local church with a hall reception to follow was the done thing. Fast forward 30 years and the options for weddings are, as we all know, endless.

New figures from gift card geniuses One4all confirm that couples are ditching the old ways in favour of a day tailored to them instead. With a whopping 88% of Brits saying they wouldn't stick to wedding traditions for their big day. According to the data, a tiny 17% of brides choose the traditional wedding march to walk down the isle and just 18% follow the 'something old, something new' tradition - so that's a huge 82% that don't!

Thats where a Celebrant Ceremony comes in.....

A bespoke, unique, meaningful ceremony which will be totally personal to you, reflecting your aspirations and beliefs...

And...the best bit is...you can hold your ceremony absolutely anywhere! Yes! anywhere! A beach, woodland, village hall or garden even in your favourite restaurant or pub!

The gift card company also revealed from their survey of 2,000 Brits, that a third of them (36%) believe couples should create their own traditions according to their personal tastes.

Interestingly, this new research shows that 99% of Glasgow locals surveyed said they wouldn't following wedding traditions if they were to get married or get married again, while 90% of those in Manchester and Edinburgh share the same opinion. So while we might think that London weddings are the obvious group to opt out of tradition, it's also other big cities in the UK following the trend, too.

Aoife Davey, group marketing manager at One4all Gift Cards told us: "For many years, weddings have followed a formula that couples have stuck to - from the bride and groom spending the night before the wedding apart, to the bride's father giving her away at the altar - but modern weddings just don't seem to following predictable patterns anymore."

With the influx of social media and sites like Pinterest, where more than ever couples can find their own style signature, we're not surprised this new data tells us British couples are choosing to lose age-old wedding traditions, in favour for a more personalised and modern day....No wonder Celebrants are becoming the  No 1 choice for an alternative ceremony.

So if you're wondering whether to ditch the old-time traditions for your wedding day, consider that the rest of the UK are doing exactly that. But after Pippa Middleton's perfectly traditional do, might we see the stats do a U-turn a year from now...? Only time (and 2018's invitations) will tell...
